Though still groggy from from the anesthesia, he could see that something was wrong.
"No! This can't be happening!" he thought. Sure, he'd seen the stories on the news and he'd heard of things like this. He knew that some hospitals made their patients take a marker and mark the spot for the surgeons Even so,he didn't believe that these mistakes really happened, at least not to regular people with good insurance, using good doctors in good hospitals. He looked again. It was gone.
"I don't understand. They were just supposed to remove a stupid cyst. How could anyone make a mistake like this?"
His chart was lying by the side of the bed. He reached over, somewhat painfully, and grabbed it. "Damn, they didn't even get my name right. I wonder what moron wrote 'Cyst' down for my name? My name isn't Cyst! I'm having a cyst removed! ".
Suddenly, Dick understood.
